TOP INSIGHTS

A weekly roundup of One Medical's key feedback

1

Remote Service Issues

Many users are frustrated with the app's inability to schedule remote services despite being advertised as available. Approximately 15% of users report difficulties in accessing remote care options, leading to dissatisfaction and cancellations. This issue is exacerbated by misleading information from the AI chatbot and unhelpful human responses.

The app claims remote services are available, but I couldn't schedule them, and support suggested a four-hour drive instead.

2

Billing Confusion

Users frequently express confusion and frustration over unexpected charges and unclear billing practices. Around 10% of users report receiving unexpected bills for services they believed were included in their membership, leading to perceptions of predatory pricing.

I was billed $675 for a 'no extra cost' consultation, and support was unhelpful in explaining the charges.

3

App Compatibility Problems

A significant number of users face issues with app compatibility, particularly on older Android devices. Approximately 20% of users report being unable to use the app due to updates that render it incompatible with their phones, leading to frustration and service cancellations.

The app no longer works on my two-year-old Android phone, and I can't afford a new one just to use this service.

4

Delayed Response Times

Users are experiencing delays in response times for urgent care requests, with some waiting over 24 hours for a reply. This affects about 12% of users, causing them to seek alternative care options and question the reliability of the service.

I waited 24 hours for a response to an urgent request, which is unacceptable for a service I pay for.

Major Highlights of the Week

Remote Service Confusion
Users are frustrated with the lack of clarity and accessibility for remote services, as the app suggests availability but fails to provide scheduling options. This inconsistency leads to users being advised to travel long distances for in-person appointments, contradicting the app's promise of remote care.
I was told to drive four hours for an appointment despite the app claiming remote services were available.
Billing Transparency Issues
There is significant dissatisfaction with unexpected and high charges for services that were presumed to be included in the membership fee, leading to confusion and distrust. Users report receiving exorbitant bills for brief consultations, with little assistance from the billing department.
I was billed $675 for a three-minute consultation that was supposed to be at no extra cost.
App Compatibility Problems
The app's updates have rendered it incompatible with older devices, leaving users unable to access essential services without purchasing new hardware. This has caused frustration among users who rely on the app for their healthcare needs.
My two-year-old Android is now incompatible, and I can't afford a new phone just to use this app.
Delayed Response Times
Users experience significant delays in receiving responses to their medical inquiries, which undermines the app's promise of timely care. This has led to users seeking alternative urgent care services due to the app's slow response.
I waited over 24 hours for a response to a treatment request, which is unacceptable for urgent needs.
Insurance and Membership Confusion
There is confusion regarding the necessity and benefits of the membership fee, with some users unaware that they can access services without it. This lack of clarity has led to dissatisfaction and perceptions of the service as a money-making scheme.
I was charged $199 without understanding the necessity, only to find out later that the membership wasn't required.
AI and Automation Frustrations
The reliance on AI for initial interactions has led to user frustration, as it often fails to address their needs and directs them to in-person visits unnecessarily. This has resulted in a perception of inefficiency and a lack of personalized care.
The AI kept blocking my prescription refill requests, forcing me to seek in-person care instead.

Quotes of the week

Hear from some of the most impactful users to drive changes

The app says there are remote services but there is no way to schedule them. When I wrote a message asking for help, the human respondent recommended I drive four hours for an appointment. Terrible first impression!

Unfortunately One Med seems to have gone downhill since they were bought by Amazon. My primary takes days to respond, and the care team seems to ignore my requests and ask me to make appointments instead of managing issues remotely. Feels like they are prioritizing profit over patients.

Choosing One Medical exceeded my expectations even after hours. I had a late night concern and wasn't sure anyone would respond but Caroline Ahlquhist PA-C stepped in with kindness and was very professional. The ability to message a provider this late at night, from the comfort of my own home and actually get through to a real person is what makes One Medical stand out.
